Thanksgiving is over. Holiday shopping is in full swing. Who’s on your gift list? Are you looking for a unique present for a beloved friend or family member?
Art makes a terrific, unique gift, and now with print-on-demand and online marketplaces, it’s never been easier to sell (or buy) original art. Apparently a lot of art is sold through Ebay, Etsy and even Facebook Marketplace. For more than a year now, I’ve been selling my art through Fine Art America at www.fineartamerica.com/profiles/7-terri-thompson My original art is reproduced to suit each buyer’s needs. For example, my 8” x 10” “Farmhouse in Tuscany” was made into a 30” x 23” print, matted, put into a gorgeous frame and shipped directly to its owner here in Las Vegas. My 12” x 14” abstract called “Triangles” was reproduced on a 30” x 23” gallery wrapped canvas. In addition to wall art, my creations can be printed on several different items from home décor (such as a throw pillow) to apparel (such as a tee-shirt in any size) or even a face mask. Here are some examples of merchandise that my customers have purchased over the last 12 months. They include tote bags, coffee mugs, spiral notebooks, greeting cards and even holiday ornaments. Won’t you take a look at my online store on Fine Art America (FAA)? Let me know if you’ve purchased anything from FAA. They guarantee satisfaction; so please let me know if you were NOT satisfied. And, of course, a big THANK YOU to everyone who has bought my art either as a gift or for themselves. Would love to hear what you think of my artwork. Last week we got back to Las Vegas and waiting for me in my studio was this certificate from Rod Moore of the Learn To Paint Academy (LTPA). It indicates that as an MCI, I am now certified to teach the Moore Method of Painting and entitled to use any of the LTPA courses and projects as part of my instruction.
An accompanying letter from Rod reads: “As you know my mission is to spread the magic in painting around the world. The Moore Method of Painting has proved to be one of the most successful approaches in teaching beginners how to paint. I am honored that you have joined me in this mission. Together we can teach the world how to paint. I am looking forward to your continued success as you start your journey as a Moore Certified Instructor.” Rod has been an amazing instructor and mentor over the two years since I joined LTPA. Here’s my testimonial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ri5Kz6dHIU And now I am eager to begin a new chapter of my art journey by teaching absolute beginners the joy of painting. God willing, I shall be teaching classes in my home as well as at City Lights Art Gallery in Henderson, Nevada. Let me know if you’d like to learn to paint with me! Last week, for my final trip into New York City before heading back to Nevada, I was fortunate to be able to take a “Sip and Paint” class at The Penn Club with Joan Iaconetti. It was nostalgic for me because this was where I took my very first watercolor class with this very same instructor more than five years ago. I’ve since taken many Zoom classes with Joan.
To be sure, I’m still better at sipping than painting, but it was wonderful to be in a room with nearly two dozen other aspiring painters. And they were all so creative and young—mostly recent graduates of U Penn, NYU or Columbia. I wish I’d started painting at their age! After a brief demonstration, Joan had us let go on our own to paint autumn leaves, pumpkins and gourds. This is what I came up with. For the last couple of years, I’ve been painting mostly with acrylics. Watercolor is quite challenging, but Joan has inspired me to pick it up again. Fortunately, thanks to Zoom, I’ll be able to take more lessons from her. If you’re at all interested in learning how to paint with watercolors, I suggest you check out her “Painting for Absolute Beginners” classes. All the details may be found at www.watercolor.joanweb.com It’s been a modestly productive four months for me in Connecticut, but it’s time now to get back to Las Vegas and the sunshine and warm temperatures. Ironically, this weekend it was actually warmer here in New England than it was in Nevada. Talk about having the best of both worlds!
One thing I will miss in particular is my little loft studio. Before packing it up, I decided to make one last painting of some of my favorite trees on the lake next to our Lakeridge property. Leaving my sweet studio is bittersweet. But, God willing, we’ll be back next summer. |
